Did you add too much salt?

We’ve all done it at some time, added too much salt and rendered a lovely meal completely in-edible. Well, next time it happens, try this handy tip…

If you accidentally over-salt a dish, while it’s still cooking, drop in a raw potato slice.

I haven’t tried this one, as it’s been a while since I over-salted a dish, but I imagine the raw potato absorbs the extra salt whilst it cooks. Let me know if you try the tip, I’d be really interested to know if it works!

Eating Britain Bookshelf

books.jpgI am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to cookery/food books and my collection is constantly growing. I do love to surf around for new recipes on the web and in magazines etc but there are some books I always go back to for specific favourite recipes. I’ve chosen a selection from my book shelf and have reviewed them (including my favourite recipes) in our new Eating Britain Cookery Book page.

Just like my collection, my wish list is also expanding rapidly, so keep an eye for regular additions!

A couple of tips to stop water from boiling over in a saucepan…

Place a wooden spoon across the top – the water will not go over it.

Or

Add a little olive oil – it weighs down the bubbles.
