We’ve all done it at some time, added too much salt and rendered a lovely meal completely in-edible. Well, next time it happens, try this handy tip…
If you accidentally over-salt a dish, while it’s still cooking, drop in a raw potato slice.
I haven’t tried this one, as it’s been a while since I over-salted a dish, but I imagine the raw potato absorbs the extra salt whilst it cooks. Let me know if you try the tip, I’d be really interested to know if it works!
A couple of tips to stop water from boiling over in a saucepan…
Place a wooden spoon across the top – the water will not go over it.
Or
Add a little olive oil – it weighs down the bubbles.
This is the time of year when our social calendars fill to the brim with Christmas parties and seasonal get-togethers, and a little over-indulgence can lead to horrible hang-overs! Here’s a refreshing tip for those sore-head days…
Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead, the throbbing will go away (don’t let the juice get in your eyes!!).
You know those times when something seems to have exploded in the microwave and it’s near impossible to clean without serious chemical assistance? My mum has a simple way to make cleaning your microwave easier and freshen it at the same time, without a single chemical in sight!
Take a glass or mug and half fill it with water.
Juice half a lemon and add the juice with the squeezed half “shell” to the glass/mug.
Microwave the glass/mug on full power for a minute.
This creates a lemony steam in the microwave which softens and de-greases baked-on food.
You can then simply wipe everything away. Leaving a fresh and clean microwave.
If the microwave is really bad, you may need to do this a couple of times. Be careful as the glass/mug and liquid can become very hot.
