Salads are such a seasonal dish, they make the very best of the fresh produce available. Winter salads are lovely but for me salads really belong in Spring and Summer, when the weather’s getting warmer and you want something lighter to eat.
A little while ago, I was raving about Jamie Oliver’s new book, Jamie at home, and I’ve been dying to try this recipe ever since! The recipe is seasonal and one of the main ingredients is fresh pasta - a perfect opportunity to use my pasta machine, and try out the gluten free Orgran Pasta flour I just received from lovely Sue at Naturally Good Food.

Salmon products ranging through wet-fish, smoked salmon and fish pies, have been removed from shelves and recalled by supermarkets due to contaminations with diesel.
The source of the problem has been traced to the seafood company Marine Harvest - one of the world’s biggest salmon farmers - which operates in the west Highlands and supplies fish to Morrisons and Young’s Seafood Ltd. The company said the fresh fish could have been tainted by the diesel - possibly from a vehicle - during transportation to a nearby processing plant.
The problem was first noticed when consumers complained of an unpleasant “white spirit” taste. Thousands of salmon products have been recalled from ten supermarket chains. The salmon recall is the latest in a long line of food alerts similar to the Tuna story we reported recently.

I’m not a campaign whore honestly, there are just some very worthy causes out there at the moment! My latest pledge is with the Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) campaign, launched earlier this month by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP). Now this is a campaign close to my heart! I’ve often mentioned my thrifty tendencies and my dislike of waste, and the LFHW campaign aims to encourage us to waste less food and help our bank accounts at the same time. Sounds good to me!
My belief is that the more chemicals you put into and onto your body, the greater they will effect your health.
I read an article in The Sunday Times last weekend, about a research project, which may have evidence to prove organic fruit and veg are higher in anti-oxidants and other nutrients, than fruit & veg produced by regular methods. I am from a scientific background and am an analyst at heart so I couldn’t resist doing some research myself.
I’ve been a “Friend” of River Cottage for quite some time now and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall is one of my all time food heroes. I whole-heartedly support his commitment to self-sufficiency and his desire to teach and inform on the subject. I had the opportunity to hear him speak at a local venue in Brighton, where he not only spoke about self-sufficiency, but also discussed his feelings on organic and free-range farming and supporting locally produced foods.
