coconut3.jpgSo, this is my first post on Eating Britain and it’s really quite exciting for me. Not just because it’s the beginning of a new blogging adventure but also because I get to tell you about a great bargin I found.

I don’t know if you know how amazing coconut oil is? Well, coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which is known to be anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal. The fatty acids in coconut oil, (medium chain triglycerides), do not raise serum cholesterol or contribute to heart disease, but are in fact very healthy.

This stuff is also great to put on your skin! You smother it on after you get out of the bath /shower and within a couple of days your skin will be lovely and soft. I found some coconut oil in an indian grocers on Green Street in East London - it’s called Pride 100% pure Coconut oil and it was just 89p for 500ml, this is amazing seeing as this would normally set you back around £2 - £3 or more!

It’s really important that you only buy pure coconut oil - you don’t want any additives. I’ve been using it for nearly a week now and honestly, it’s fabulous stuff. My skin is soft, smooth and ever so slightly scented with the pleasant smell of coconut. I can highly recommend it! I haven’t tried cooking with it yet but I’ll let you know how it goes.
