Oh, and a quick note regarding eggs - in North America, eggs are washed which removes the outer layer of the shell, so it is advisable to only store them in the fridge.

I wanted to make a comment on your smoothie section. while smoothies do contain a fair amount of sugars, the important thing is the difference between simple and complex sugars. If you are making our smoothies with all fruit and fruit juice you are getting simple sugars which your body can readily use and burn off. Processed and preserved smoothies may be made with additives such as corn syrup that are complex sugars, these are much harder for your body to break down. Another example of why reading the ingredients is so important.

Organic vs conventionally produced food, is a tricky subject, I think the debate will go on for some time.

While I cannot comment on farming practices in Britain, I can in the States. The organic versus conventional farming argument is a bit flawed here. Most of our E Coli outbreaks are linked to manure being used in conventional farming as well as run off from farms.

Hi girls

Good idea bout the oatmeal and cornmeal, I'll have to try it out. I used crumbs from gf homemade bread but I'm sure it would work with the shop bought varieties - I know Helen stocks a good variety.

I think oatmeal might work well as a wheat free option. Gluten free - now you've got me thinking ... how about cornmeal or just breadcrumbs from one of the gluten free breads? Beware the sausagemeat too if using it, most contain wheat.

Couldn't agree more with you Helen. Hopefully this will help raise the general awareness with people that may otherwise not spend too much time thinking about it.
