Ooh what fun I had! I arrived back home, tired from being on my feet all day, laden with lots of goodies, and feeling completely inspired! What a great festival, I can hardly wait for the next one!
The first thing that struck me as I entered was a great blackboard, where anyone could write their thoughts about the show. Followed quickly with a HUGE AWWWW factor for two lovely little piggies
There were so many producers in the market, the scale was enormous! It was foody heaven! Some of my old favourites like Munchy Seeds and Chocolate Alchemist were there. I couldn’t help walking away with a bar of limited edition single plantation dark chocolate, it was divine! Due to there being many pineapple trees growing in the plantation, the cocoa and resulting chocolate have a pineapple hint to their flavour.
It was also lovely to meet new (to me) producers and try their lovely wares! I bought some outstanding handmade Nettle cows milk cheese from the Northumberland Cheese Company. It’s so good! I have tried Cornish Yarg, which is covered in nettles but I had never tried a cheese with nettle running right the way through, the flavour was there and magnificent.
I cannot wait to try the dried chillies I was introduced to at Chilli Pepper Pete’s. The people were lovely and so knowledgeable. The range of chillis available is vast and you can even get rare varieties such as naga bih jolokia, said to be the hottest chilli on the planet.
The list of producers I visited is rather large, so check out the rest of the pictures in the Eating Britain Gallery.
The Festival is not just about the best food and drink, but also learning what you can do with it. Some of the best chefs in the business are there to show off what they can do. The Real Food Theatre and Cookery school were thoroughly enjoyable and extremely educational.
The Real Food Festival at Earl’s Court in London, runs until this Sunday 27th April and there are still tickets available - so quick buy some and have a delicious day out!!
