bread-maker.jpgThe fabulous bread maker I mentioned too briefly in my last post, is a Panasonic SD-253 Automatic Bread maker. It has a nut/seed/fruit dispenser and a gluten-free programme.

This is the first bread maker I’ve ever used, so I have nothing to compare it to but it is simple to use and produces lovely bread. The instructions include a cookery book with a wide range of bread recipes to bake in the bread maker eg; basic loaves, Ciabatta, malted loaves and fruit breads.

There are many recipes for various doughs which you mix in the maker, then shape by hand and bake in the oven, eg; rolls, pizza bases, pastries, cakes and donuts! The scope for creativity is enormous, I can see I may become addicted to bread making :)

I have yet to calculate whether it’s cost effective compared to buying ready made breads. I think depending on the ingredients you want to use it could work out cheaper, especially if you’re prepared to buy your preferred flours in bulk. But even if it works out to be slightly more expensive, you have the un-doubtable benefit of controlling exactly what goes into your bread and whether you want it to be organic, gluten-free, or simply preservative-free.

The Glebe Farm Gluten-free bread mix I used can also be used with non-dairy milks eg; soya milk or rice milk, so it’s great for dairy intolerance too.

I’m so looking forward to trying lots more recipes!
