homemade_glutenfree_loaf.JPGOne of my highlights this Christmas was a present that my mum received. A bread maker! Not just an ordinary bread maker… it’s got a gluten-free setting too! Well it didn’t take long for us to try it out and it’s been in constant use ever since.

glebe_farm_gluten_free_flour.JPGLast night we tried our first gluten-free loaf and it was a great success! We used Glebe Farm Gluten Free Bread Mix and followed their bread maker instructions rather than using the gluten-free programme on the bread maker. The result was a very delicious loaf indeed!

The crust was golden, crisp and light - a little more like a cake crust than a bread crust, with a satisfying crunch. The dough within was firm and springy, and bubbly like an aero! (not chocolaty though of course!!). The texture reminded me of crumpets, slightly chewy. The bread had a buttery taste to it, even though there was no butter in the ingredients, curious but very tasty none the less.

I really do like the texture of regular gluten-full breads and have been fairly disappointed with the gluten-free loaves I have bought so far, they are just not the same. I do understand that due to the lack of gluten, it is pretty much impossible to replicate the texture of regular bread and although, this gluten-free loaf still didn’t have the same texture, it was by far the best I’ve tasted so far. It didn’t toast very well, but I can live without toast! :)

Our next step, will be to try the bread maker’s gluten-free programme and when we do I’ll let you know how we get on.
