It’s my favourite week of the year! National Chocolate week (NCW) is all about celebrating everything chocolaty! There’ll be talks, demonstrations, tastings and launches of new chocolates at the various stores involved.
This year NCW is focusing on British chocolate and paying homage to all the wonderful chocolatiers this nation is producing, including Divine and Cocoa Loco.
The Chocolate Week website has a wealth of information about proceedings this week, including a list of events and a great offers page where you can print out vouchers and redeem them at various locations.
You can also learn all about the history of chocolate and how it is made, there are tips for choosing good chocolate, and a list of this year’s Academy of Chocolate award winners. It’s a chocoholic’s directory.
Look out for lots more to do with chocolate on Eating Britain, I know I’m going to enjoy celebrating chocolate this week!
To get things started, here’s a meme all about chocolate:
Chocolate meme
1) Dark, white or milk?
Tricky. I adore eating milk chocolate, as chocolate but for cooking with I’d choose dark every time, in desserts it has a much more chocolaty flavour.
2) Favourite chocolate dish, sweet or savoury?
I guess this one is a bit of a classic - Chocolate mousse. If it’s on a menu, I am hard pushed to choose something else but it can be disastrous and I’ve had my fair share of near liquid mousse with a distinctly angel delight flavour. The best chocolate mousse I have eaten is not surprisingly my mum’s, although she has a tendency to be very generous with the rum!
3) A chocolate memory
Don’t ask me why but it’s a family tradition to have left over chocolate mousse at breakfast on Boxing day. I know it is really not a good breakfast but it’s easy to indulge yourself at Christmas time! Mum is pretty much guaranteed to make her famous chocolate mousse around this time and on various occasions I remember feeling like it’s a kind of edible ‘hair of the dog’ after Christmas day.
4) Favourite chocolate bar
I tend to have phases of liking a particular chocolate bar, I couldn’t get enough of mint Wispas at one time and then I went though a phase of adoring chocolate orange bars. Now it’s Snickers bars, I have at least one a week, there’s something about chocolate and peanuts that I find delicious.
5) if you could only have one specific chocolate for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would have to be a dark chocolate because I cook so much with it, probably Green & Black’s Dark 70%. I could live without chocolate bars if I could still whip up a batch of brownies or make an oozy chocolate pudding.
I’m tagging Trig, Julia, Jeanne, Karina and Fran with this chocolaty meme but feel free to answer the questions yourself and don’t forget to let me know your answers!

And what better excuse to eat even more chocolate? I’m using this as an opportunity to make a different chocolate recipe every day (check by blog if you don’t believe it!!).
Great article and meme!
