One thing in particular excited me about moving house, we are now just minutes walk from the farmers market, my favourite place to be on a Saturday morning.
Shoreham farmers market is busy and vibrant, it almost reminds me of the French market I visited weekly when I lived in Lyon. There is definitely a relaxed vibe, with live music, hot food stalls and the nearby restaurants creating a cafe feel with tables out on the pavements.
Ok, some of the prices could be a little more pocket friendly but many of the wares are hand crafted with love and attention, the fruit & veg is hours fresh instead of days/weeks old, the cheese can be sourced to specific farms and you know that you are contributing to the survival of your local community - I’d say it’s worth it!
Shoreham farmers market is a treasure indeed and I just wish it was weekly instead of monthly! For two years in a row Shoreham has missed out on the Sussex Food & Drink award for Best Farmers Market, finishing in the final three on both ocassions. So hopefully this year the market has gained enough votes to win!
A short list for each award will be drawn up from the nominations with the highest number of votes in their own category and will be considered as finalists. The judges will then verify the finalists against set criteria for each award category. The winners will be announced at a glittering awards dinner on Thursday 29th January 2009.
