Autumn 2007 saw the launch of a new lifestyle magazine for West Sussex, highlighting the benefits of eating local food and promoting West Sussex food producers and retailers.
‘Taste West Sussex’ is filled with interesting features on local food and drink, a business directory, and delicious recipes. Being the eco-conscious gal I am, I requested the online version of the first edition and was thrilled by all that I read. I found the articles interesting, informative and entertaining; the recipes set my taste buds on high alert and as for the directory… it’s been printed and now lives on my fridge door!
Although this magazine is focused on West Sussex, it’s great reading where ever you are based, so take a look at the Autumn 07 and Spring 08 TWS editions in PDF format. You can also subscribe for the future editions, on line here. I subscribed early and was lucky enough to receive two great books with the latest edition; ‘Seasoned West Sussex’ a collection of seasonal recipes using local food and ‘Recipes from the archives’ a selection of old-fashioned recipes from the West Sussex Record Office. I can’t wait to try some local recipes, so keep your eyes peeled for future local food posts.
Is there anything similar in your area to promote local food and producers? I’d love to hear about it! :)

Hi Sarah,
You might be interested to know that Sussex is lucky enough to have two free food magazines. Taste West Sussex, which you’ve already discovered, is a quarterly publication produced by West Sussex County Council, while Eat Sussex is an independent bi-monthly magazine covering East and West Sussex.
I’m the editor of Eat Sussex, so of course I’m biased but you can download all our back issues at http://www.eatsussex.co.uk. I’d love to know what you think.
Best wishes,
Tony Leonard
Thanks for your comments. I’ll definitely take a look at the website and download Eat Sussex. Can’t wait to see how it compares to my beloved TWS! ;)
